This victory, in which a small, agrarian nation defeated the world’s mightiest military superpower, shattered the myth of Western invincibility. It stands as one of the 20th century’s most significant anti-imperialist triumphs. We honor the immense sacrifice and unwavering spirit of the Vietnamese people, led by President Ho Chi Minh. Their struggle was not just for their own freedom but became a beacon of hope, inspiring liberation movements across the globe from Africa to Latin America.

In 1975, Vietnam\u2019s victory marked the end for neo-colonialism worldwide. This celebration is deeply personal, rooted in our own communities’ histories of resistance in the United States. The AAFC remembers with pride those Asian-American activists of the Vietnam War era who rejected the US government’s racist and imperialist war. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Groups like the Asian American Political Alliance and the Van Troi Anti-Imperialist Youth Brigade stood with Vietnam against the United States, their new home. These groups took to the streets to link the struggle of Asian Americans against racism at home with the struggle of the Vietnamese against US bombs abroad. They recognized that the same “Yellow Peril” ideology used to justify internment camps and exclusion laws was the very same racism that dehumanized the Vietnamese as “gooks” .
